Congress is one step closer to repealing the Affordable Care Act. If successful, the effects would be disastrous for people living with HIV.
All of the major proposals on the table right now gut Medicaid, the health coverage program for low-income people. And about 11,000 Texans living with HIV are on Medicaid.
Taking away the ability to get medical treatment for chronic diseases like HIV is among the worst things we could do for these Texans, including one our patients, a fifteen-year-old, who is living with HIV.
Going back to the days when this country didn’t care about HIV or when most people with HIV were denied insurance coverage or couldn’t afford it isn’t an option.
Call your Senators today
“Hello, my name is _____ and I live in [city]. I’m a person [living with/concerned about] HIV and I’m calling because Senator ___ should oppose current proposals to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Repeal will take health insurance away from many living with HIV. The effects would be disastrous for local bipartisan efforts to stop the HIV epidemic. Thank you.”
