Going to the Texas Book Festival? Support Texas’ Little Readers.
Texas is falling short on preparing our children for the future. Texas ranks 50th in the nation in percentage of adults with a high school education. On average, there is only one book for every 300 children in low-income areas.
Legacy Community Health, one of the nation’s largest community health centers based in Houston, believes pediatricians play a vital role in early childhood literacy. Presented with H-E-B, Legacy’s Little Readers offers a prescription to read by providing an age-appropriate book to our youngest patients at their well-child visits.
Throughout the upcoming legislative session, we will be championing policy that gets more books in to the hands of kids who so desperately need them. Until then, sign-up today for action alerts on any legislation and news updates on childhood literacy in Texas. Be a voice for the next generation of readers.
